DIVISIONS
T-Ball (ages 5 - 7 years old): This is a developmental division for girls and boys. The basic fundamentals of hitting, base running, fielding, and the rules of the game are introduced to a young player. There is no pitching; rather a player (batter) hits off a “T” (a stationary device whereby a baseball rests until hit). Teams play against each other but all games are “Friendlies” (i.e., no games count in the standings). Everyone bats and plays. There are no set innings for a game rather everyone plays within a certain allotted time period.
Coaches Pitch (7 - 8 years old): This is a development division for girls and boys. The fundamentals (hitting, base running, fielding, and the rules) of the game are emphasised to players. Coaches focus on providing further support by discussing playing insights, (what players look for and where they field when playing). Batters begin to be introduced to live pitching. For example, coaches pitch to the batters. Batters are given ample opportunity to hit and coaches work on hitters not being afraid of the ball and building their self confidence to hit. Teams play against each other but all games are "Friendlies" (i.e., no games count in the standings). Everyone bats and plays. There are no set innings for a game rather everyone plays within a certain allotted time period.
Minors (9-10 years old): This is a competitive division for girls and boys. The fundamentals (hitting, base running, fielding, and the rules) of the game are emphasised to players. Players (pitchers) pitch to one another in a competitive game (e.g., 6 innings). An umpire is used to call balls and strikes. Players learn how to compete; the emphasis is to build pitching and a player’s maturity on how to compete, but we highlight sportsmanship. Games count in the standings. Before each game there is a minimum of one-hour practise and then followed by a competitive game. At the end of the season, all teams play in an open playoff tournament and they are seeded based off the regular season final standings.
Majors (11 - 13 years old): This is a competitive division for boys and girls. The fundamentals (hitting, base running, fielding, and the rules) of the game are emphasised to players. Players (pitchers) pitch to one another in a competitive game (e.g., 6 innings). An umpire calls balls and strikes. Players compete but we emphasis sportsmanship. Games do count in the standings. Before each game there is a minimum of one-hour practise and then a competitive game is played.
Travel Team (10 - 13 years old): This team is selected from players of our ages 10 - 13 years only, through evaluations and tryouts. Teams represent London Baseball in the British Baseball Federation (BBF) League for youths. Hence, our Travel Team plays against other similar ages youth teams in and around London. All games played count for the BBF standings. In the fall the BBF plays a postseason tournament where our Travel Team may play. Away games are played on the road and home games are played at Wormwood Scrubs on the weekends. Players selected for the travel team still can compete in their assigned teams in their respective assigned division at LondonSports Baseball League. Thus players get to play in both Leagues (double the play).
